Introduction for online work
Thursday, June 1st. I had met with both my supervisors and part owner of the company at a Starbucks to discuss my responsibilities with PBR, as well as introducing me to the software that I will be using to update individual player profiles. They showed me hands on how to transfer stats from the pure imagination software onto the PBR website. I was also given usernames and passwords so that I could have access to whatever need be, while I would be working from my laptop from home. After explaining how to transfer all of the stats to player profiles, I was baptized by fire having to update an entire showcase right in front of them. Overall, it went well, but I hadn’t become fluent and time efficient like they were. Towards the end of the meeting I was given a schedule of showcases and I am supposed to send it back with which ones I am available to work. Before the meeting I had paper work of my information to hand to my supervisor so that I could get paid, liability documents and things of that nature. The meeting concluded and I was told to show up early to my first showcase a bit early so that I could have a meet and greet with other co-workers.
2017 Top Prospect Games
Monday, June 5th. I had to be up early so that I could travel from Columbus to Cincinnati and get to the park by 8am. At PBR you get compensated for the mileage you put in to get to an event. I got to Prasco Park at 7:30am to help set up for the showcase. Setup included a check in station, making sure we had cameras/radars in working order, setting up for batting practice on the field, and setting up for the 60 yard dashes. After setup, I got to meet the rest of the staff as well as other students in the internship program and we discussed the schedule and job responsibilities for everyone. Once the participants started to arrive I was appointed to giving the hitters short toss before they hit on the field in front of the college scouts. After a couple hours of short toss, as an intern I was in charge of going to pick up lunch and beverages for all of the employees. After the brief lunch break, I was in charge of being a coach in a dugout during the game so that there was no disorganization. Once the games concluded, we did a quick tear down and that was it for day one.

Working from Home
Sunday, June 11th. Today is my first day working from home to update player profiles off of my laptop. Usually as an intern, you would be a part of updating the player profiles from the showcase that you had just worked. I had just worked the Top Prospect Games in Cincinnati, so I was the one who was in charge of uploading/updating player profiles. First I had to write down the players names and their updated stats so that I could transfer them onto “pure imagination”. Pure imagination is the software we use to plug in the stats. I got the stats from Microsoft excel that another employee uploaded and I would then transfer it into our software and so that it would be on the PBR website. It can get repetitive and boring to plug in statistics, so I divided them into two different time periods. I would go about updating stats for 3 hours at a time and it usually came that I would do this type of work for 6 hours out of the day. Example of a player profile is shown below.

Online Work, Future Prospects Camp
Monday, June 12th. I was assigned to work from home and update player profiles from excel to pure imagination. Providing statistics to the pure imagination software, we then are able to see the individual player’s stats on the PBR website. The showcase I was assigned to was the Future Prospects Camp that I had not worked. I was assigned this showcase so that I could be more fluent with this type of work. There were 123 participants and it had taken me 6 hours to update all the participants.

2017 Free Future Prospect Camp
Thursday, June 14th. This showcase event is free to any and all 7th and 8th graders. These types of events are so that the players and parents can get a good feel on how a showcase is run. Of course, there will be no college scouts in attendance because of how young the participants are but in the end it will benefit both PBR and the players. This showcase was held at Olentangy Liberty High school, and since I live in Olentangy I won’t be compensated for any of my mileage. I will just be paid hourly. The day started with setup and an introduction of the head coach and staff of Olentangy Liberty. I was in charge of setting up the 60 yard sprint, so I had to measure out, and make markings of start point and end point with cones. After all the participants ran their 60`s, I was designated to give players short toss before they hit batting practice on the field. We took our lunch break and then I was making my debut for the twitter handle. When tweeting, you post the players information, as well as a short video. I posted about 25 different hitters on the twitter handle then was responsible for tear down of the event.

2017 Worthington Wood Bat Tournament Showcase
Friday, June 15th. This showcase was originally supposed to be held at Olentangy Liberty High School but the weather was not cooperating so we had to move indoors to the brand new Bo Jackson facility in Hilliard. As I walked into the new facility, I couldn’t help but notice that all the equipment was “top of the line”. This dome had two full size turf infields, two full size football/soccer fields and twelve batting cages. With all the equipment already in order, there was not a lot that needed to be set up other than buckets of baseball and tables being put into position. Again, I was designated to be in charge of short toss for the hitters before they hit batting practice on one of the full size infields. After short toss I had camera duty and I was in charge of recording catchers throwing down to second base as well as recording the catchers receiving and framing pitches. After a quick tear down, the interns were introduced to some of the college scouts and coaches and that’s when I conducted my first interview.

2017 Ohio Future 50
Thursday, June 28th. This event was yet again held at Olentangy Liberty High School for underclass participants. This event was overwhelming because we were understaffed. Two of our employees were in Georgia coaching a summer ball team and another was sick, so everyone had to be on their A-game. I had arrived early so that we could get setup over and done with and I had to help with check in until all participants had arrived and gotten their participant shirt with an individual number. I was in charge of radar gun off of the tee. I would let the participant take 3 swings and I would record his highest velocity that he had swung. I had to come in and throw batting practice on the main field in front of all the scouts and throwing is all easy until you feel that kind of pressure. After all the hitters had taken BP we set up for the pitchers to throw and my job then was to record catchers receiving, blocking and framing pitches. After all the pitchers had thrown, we did a quick tear down and that was the end of the day.

Online Work, Underclass Trials
Thursday, July 6th. I was appointed to update player profiles onto the PBR website using the Pure Imagination software and Microsoft Excel. The showcase I was working with was the underclass trials which is the freshman and sophomore class`s for the year. There were 5 players who didn’t have an active PBR account so I could not update their profiles. After 6 hours of plugging in the 145 player`s stats, I message my supervisor of the 5 participants without access to a PBR account. These accounts are later activated by another employee and they will go back and put in there statistics.

Online Work, New England Showcase
Saturday, July 8th. I was asked to complete player profiles from a PBR showcase in New England. They don’t have an internship program yet, so I was assigned to update their player profiles. After updating all 103 player profiles for 6 hours I was required to contact my supervisor if there were any issues or errors. I did not have any hiccups or problems and was told that I would have another New England showcase further down the road.

2017 Buckeye Elite Showcase
Wednesday, July 12th. Buckeye Elite is a showcase that is for the players of Columbus and it is held at Olentangy Liberty High School. Once I had arrived I was on gas station duty. I was the one appointed to take the company credit card and go buy beverages for the day, upside is that I don’t have to help set up while I’m running around. I was assigned to record players batting practice by video camera. Once, I had every hitter recorded I had to go back and put the video into our system so that they could be moved into our software and then college coaches could have access to see the videos. This showcase was of large capacity so we had to break into two separate times. 9am was assigned to infielders and outfielders and 3pm was designated for the pitchers and catchers. This system went smoothly and overall I thought I saved us time and disorganization. The only problem that came about was some infielders and outfielders came to the wrong times, so we had to set up stuff just because of their mistakes. We got a quick tear down and that was it for the day.

Friday, July 18th. After working the Buckeye Elite Showcase at Olentangy Liberty High School, I was required to update 127 of the players that participated. This showcase had every single event, so it took longer for me to plug in each players stats. After the 6 hours of typing I had finished and sent into my supervisor that I had concluded updating the player’s statistics.

Sunday, July 20th. I was reached out to by my supervisor to update players statistics from the Underclass Trials and this is an event that I hadn’t worked, so I’m assuming that I was picking up someone else’s slack. I needed all the hours I could get, so I volunteered to do the updates from this event. There were 89 participants, so it wasn’t too stressful. I broke up the work into two days, for a total of 6 hours, and sent in conformation that this event was updated to my supervisor.

Wednesday, July 23rd. I was appointed to work from home and get some online work done. PBR’s New England branch is short staffed, so they will send us some of their showcases to update. I wasn’t told what the name of the showcase was, I was just required to update 113 players’ statistics. After work I sat down and knocked out 88 player profiles, came back the next morning to finish. Sent in confirmation of completion, as well as a few profiles that were not activated.

2017 Ohio Underclass Games
Tuesday, July 25th. This event was being hosted by Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. It was a bit of a drive from Columbus to Dayton so I had to be up early and I would be compensated for the mileage. My supervisor was running late and we didn’t have our usual staff, so I ran check-in for both events. The 9am event went smoothly and I got to umpire some innings after all the participants were checked in. In between sessions we got a lunch break and I was appointed to check in the participants for the second session. Again after check in, I got do record some of the pitcher`s velocity and volunteered to umpire for a few innings. The day had ended, I cleaned up trash because we were in charge of our own clean up and after tear down of the event, we got to socialize with the head coach of the Wright State baseball team.

Thursday, July 31st. Another intern had called me to see if I could pick up one of his showcases. I had worked this event, but I wasn’t assigned to the online work for it. The Ohio Underclass Games were held for the freshman and sophomore class. I had update 94 of the participants from the event and by this point, I am starting to know kids by their names and stats. After 6 hours of work spread out over the course of two day, I finished and sent in confirmation of completion.

Tuesday, August 4th. I was originally scheduled to work the Northern Ohio Unsigned Senior Games but I had to cancel due to a last minute vacation. My supervisors were understanding and it’s very easy to get another intern to fill a shift. I was stilled required to do the online work for this event. I had to update 119 participants and this is one of the more important showcases because it’s only seniors that are participating. I did all of the work on the road over the span of two days, for a total of six hours, and told my boss’s that I had completed the work.

Another senior only showcase, that’s very important for the participants. I was appointed to update 92 players’ statistics from the event, and this took one day, and six hours to complete. Once I was done, I sent in confirmation of completion to my supervisors.

Sunday, August 9th. At this point, I am having my supervisor send me any and all online work they have, so that I can meet my requirement for hours. The Southern Ohio Unsigned Senior Games was another senior only showcase that I was told to update participant’s statistics of. I only had to update 78 players’ stats that took me one day and six hours total. There was one profile that wasn’t yet activated, other than that, everything went smoothly. Sent into my supervisors that I was done with this event.

Saturday, August 12th. I have concluded working the showcases and so that I could get all my required hours of the internship, I was going to be working at home from my computer the rest of the way. This day wasn’t actually supposed to be a workday for me but myself, along with other co-workers got a text from our supervisor saying that an individual forgot to update player’s height and weight in their profiles. We all had to go back and look into who had this specific event and nobody would own up to their mistakes. Eventually, I went ahead and volunteered to go back into the player profiles and plug in their height and weights. I had an open schedule and I would enjoy if I got offered a job after the internship, so I took the bullet and my supervisor and co-workers were grateful for what I did.

Tuesday, August 18th. The Freshman Free Showcase was of course a free showcase that freshman could partake in so that they could see where they were at from a talent standpoint. I volunteered to do the online work because the hours I needed. 67 players participated and it took me one day, 6 hours to complete and send in confirmation to my supervisor that I had finished updating player profiles.

Working from Home
Saturday, August 19th. Today I am working from home updating player profiles from the Ohio Fall Unsigned Senior Games. This would be my last line of work for my internship, so I was excited to get it over and done with. I just put on some music and went to work for about 6 hours. This event was a little different from others because it is for athletes who are about to graduate but have not committed to play baseball for a college program. This would be the participant’s last available showcases so our updated stats had to be top notch without any errors. I was updating the stats from the excel document and I noticed that not only was there a 60 yard dash but they had added a 30 yard dash as well. This is just another stat tat college programs would take into consideration, so if we can add a stat that could gain a scouts interest we are going to add it into the event. I finished my last player profile and sent a text to my supervisor stating that I had finished updating profiles for this event and that concluded my internship experience.
